Every aspect of the waste processing technology incorporated into the TYRANNOSAURUS® system is the outcome of BMH Technology’s long experience in process industry engineering and heavy-duty machine design.
Solid raw waste fed into a TYRANNOSAURUS® facility is refined into high-grade Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), an ideal alternative fuel for power plants and cement kilns. SRF represents an excellent option for developing countries in particular, where large amounts of waste are generated and little or none of it is recycled or reused and where the demand for energy and cement for construction is growing all the time.
The TYRANNOSAURUS® process represents an excellent way to generate cheap local fuel for the growing economies of countries with major waste problems, and plants have already been delivered to customers in Thailand, India, and Brazil, for example.
Flexible, highly scalable technology
BMH’s solutions are equally suitable for use elsewhere. A good example of this is the three-line TYRANNOSAURUS® plant due to be completed in summer 2014 for Mälarenergi AB’s new power boiler under construction in Sweden.
This will be able to process 450,000 t/a of waste into high-quality SRF to power the 170 MW boiler, which will generate district heat and electricity. The plant will be the first of its kind in Sweden and the world’s largest power plant using SRF as its main fuel. Renewable energy fractions will account for up to 70% of the fuel produced in the TYRANNOSAURUS® process and will make a significant contribution to reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will include three complete TYRANNOSAURUS® 9900 lines operating in parallel and capable of processing 75-120 t/h of industrial, commercial, and municipal waste. The waste input will be shredded into the final fraction size required for the boiler in a single phase, after which any harmful substances and recyclable materials contained in the waste stream will be removed. The entire process will be fully automatic, fast, and efficient – and compares very favourably with more conventional solutions.
In addition to the fuel production unit, BMH will also supply the fuel storage silos and an automatic fuel feeding system. Together, the fuel preparation and handling system and the power boiler represent a unique waste-to-electricity project.
Although the Mälarenergi project – together with the even larger facility handed over to a cement producer in Thailand in 2011 and capable of processing approx. 750,000 t/a of municipal waste – are probably the world’s largest SRF-based projects, smaller-scale projects can also benefit from TYRANNOSAURUS® technology, thanks to its modular design.
