Valopaa’s intelligent lighting solutions enable the amount of light at specific locations to be changed very flexibly, according to local conditions and needs. Systems are based on intelligent LED light fixtures, a master unit, and sensor units, which communicate with each other over a license-free encrypted wireless link.
Deployment takes place via a Web-based application, running on a laptop for example. This is used to set light intensity levels, how long areas are illuminated at a constant level, and the speed at which lighting changes take place. The same application can be used to collect maintenance data, as well as reprogram all the fixtures in a system, making it possible to add supplementary features at a later date. Various expansion options are also available to extend a system’s physical reach.
Flexibility is very much the name of the game, in terms of where system components are located, how light fixtures and sensor units are grouped, and how things such as holidays and the seasons are handled.
As the Valopaa system is wireless-based, only basic electrical wiring to power fixtures is required. The master unit was initially launched in an Ethernet version and a wireless version is also now available.
Easily upgradeable, low-maitenance systems
The flexibility – and intelligence – of Valopaa’s system mean that it is suitable for numerous different applications, including street lighting, area lighting, industrial lighting, and canopy lighting for service stations; the latter has been the most popular application to date.
Despite this flexibility, the typical payback time for a system is very short and can be as little as two years. A Valopaa system typically halves energy usage compared to conventional metal halide lighting, and sometimes by as much as 80%. Systems are also essentially future-proof and low-maintenance, as features and software can be easily upgraded wirelessly, without the need to open up individual fixtures.
Perhaps most importantly of all, at least for end-users, a Valopaa system ensures constant lumen output, with lumen depreciation compensated for over the lifetime of units. This brings increased energy savings, as lower current levels can be used with lights initially.
